Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and peace on earth, goodwill to all.
From our home to yours, may your holidays be peaceful and filled with love and joy.

This one moved me. Let’s call it “My Reason Returned.”
“…raised my eyes toward heaven and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever; For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom endures from generation to generation.” Daniel 4:34
I am the tuning fork, a shimmering frisson of vibration calling the heart to harmony
I am also the rock, though, throwing ripples concentrically across once calmed waters
Peace and chaos vie for my soul, my meditation song pulled from the place of light
Spilling haphardly across the courtyard where I tend tightly ordered rows of flowers
Regimental form forced on blood red roses contrary to their petals’ better nature,
Never certain which will win the day, tranquility or turmoil, I toil with hope and a smidgen of fear.
He walked tall, that Rusty Whiskers, said what he meant and meant what he said.
Devoted to doing the right, if not popular, thing, while spreading peace, love, and
Fried shrimp across this massive land. His life a benevolent mystery, marked by epic
Climbs to far off mountaintop gurus. The meaning of life intertwined with the taste
Of beef jerky and dried sunflower seeds. A brief dance with cocaine kept him humble,
Unaddicted, but slightly paranoid. Always up for a good story; always there for the
Woman he loves. His pottery and her signs bringing enlightenment to the masses.
Several days ago the words “Rusty Whiskers” popped into my mind. I rolled the words around trying to decide what needed to be done with them. Then, lo and behold, I meet a man named Rusty and his lovely lady, Sherry. It seemed like a sign.
I’m pretty sure Rusty Whiskers will appear in future posts. That name is just too great to let go.
Roaring down highways
Barbecuing landmarks
Chastising Girl Scouts
Emulating despots.
‘Round every corner
Evil doers lurk
Hiding their enmity
‘Neath smarmy smirks.
How do they sleep nights?
Minds filled with bile
Greed over principle
Seduction using guile.
In this topsy turvy world
Where hatred disguised as good
Seeks dominion o’er the masses
Words of power are my shield.
Standing on the corner
Of Hate and Paranoia
Hanging high, a banner
Around me, phobic patter
Blame those with darker skin!
Attack those you think sin!
Do it in the name of God!
Forget that He commanded love!
Easy to go with the flow
Buoyed by their anger’s tow
So many souls kept in thrall
To xenophobic clarion call.
But one block further down
Folks rejoice in sweetness found
Freedom reigns one street east
On the corner of Joy and Peace.
Peace, people.
Written in response to the Daily Post’s Daily Prompt:
Remember the seven cardinal sins? You’re given the serious task of adding a new one to the list — another trait or behavior you find particularly unacceptable, for whatever reason. What’s sin #8 for you? Why?
First students, let’s review those pesky seven deadly sins:
My personal favorite–lust,
followed in order of the sins
to which I’ve succumbed
in order of frequency
from greatest to least:
sloth, (yes, i’m wicked lazy)
pride, (and darned proud of it,)
gluttony (i’ll toast again to that!)
with just a soupçon of
greed, wrath, and envy,
to make me truly interesting.
I nominate intolerance
to take its rightful
place among these
numbered transgressions.
Divisive and shaming,
a barrier to peace;
bigotry makes no
loving concessions.
