Peppermint Scented Cat

Whiskers a foot long
Her black coat soft, tinged with gray
Smells of peppermint

My own bonny cat
Thirteen years to her credit
Smells of peppermint

Like a dowager
Awaiting a grandchild’s call
Smells of peppermint

Luxuriant pose
Paws stretch horizontally
Smells of peppermint

Scout, my feline fair
Lingered, languished within sheets
Smells of peppermint

I’ve been trying to ward off spiders by using peppermint essential oils mixed with water as a spray for our bedding. Scout, our older cat, has become something of a peppermint junkie. She lounges about on my bed all day, smells wonderful, and seems to be spider-free.

peace, people!

Let It Shine

Once we shone like stars
sparkling with brilliance untold,
emanating joy

We knew no hatred,
no prejudice shrouded eyes
dimmed our radiance

God I promised then
hide it under a bushel?
no! I’ll let it shine

A Little Vine Music

Creeping curving clef

Bold stroke twining garden’s staff

In the key of green

Floral fusion blooms

A visual melody

Music to the eyes

Strains softly entwine

Noted lines in four four time

Pianissimo

Climb

stairway to heaven
stars align to point the way
no turning back now

each step a blessing
every breath a prayer
walk always in peace

climb without ceasing
love with no reservation
embrace every soul

Texas Panhandle Haiku

Wander treeless plain

Skirting cactus carefully

Prairie grasses wave

Broad blue Texas sky

Wrangling clouds into corrals

Get along, dogies!

Guardian windmill

Lighthouse without a beacon

Welcoming landmark.

Solitude

Solitude breaks hearts
Yet may heal a thousand wounds
Only time will tell

Darkness cries softly
Find comfort in my warm depths
Embraced by nature

Torch away the night
Bring light to every corner
Lest I die alone.

Evening Lake Haiku

Green cast of twilight
birds’ song floating from tall trees
forest peace descends

Lake without ripples
leafy reflections confound
filtered light descends

Red chairs keeping watch
over sunset’s still water
silent guardians

Wine Talking

Is wine the culprit
for the mistakes made tonight,
or for my regrets?

Only I claim fault
for my words, unrepentant;
no pinot to blame.

But the warmth inside
ameliorates the guilt
soothes me off my feet.

Decorating on the Run

dinosaur attacks
relatively infrequent
panic inducing

Hanging around at Tallahassee Nurseries on Tuesday I ran into this fellow.

And these folks.
So, do I want to decorate my garden courtyard in early prehistoric or timeless religion?
