Is it too late for me to volunteer for Mars Mission One?

We all know people who will vote Trump/Pence, and I am no different. My daughters college roommate is one, a neighbor down the street who has not one, but two Trump signs displayed on his lawn is another, and a millennial co-worker of mine is a third sampling of seemingly normal people who will vote Trump/Pence. I have tried to understand their perspective, and this is what they shared with me about why the are voting Trump:

“He’s good at business.”

I suppose this might be subjective. I have no respect for his unethical style of business. He files bankruptcy in order to avoid paying people, and he does not pay taxes. To me that is unethical, not good business.

“I’m voting for him because he is not a politician.”

Give us a Sign

At a Trump rally yesterday a man approached the stage carrying a sign. It was a simple sign, “Republicans Against Trump” printed from an internet site. Someone in the crowd yelled, “Gun!” And all hell broke loose.

Trump was hustled off the stage while angry supporters beat the man until police officers arrived to quickly handcuff, and thankfully, lead him to safety. There was no gun. NO assassination attempt. Yet, that’s how Trump and his crew are spinning it. Some have even slyly hinted that Clinton was behind the “attack.” My own local television station “forgot” to mention that no gun was found and that the man was released after leaving the building.

When Trump returned to the stage he not only thanked the Secret Service detail assigned to him, as was appropriate, but praised those who’d beaten an innocent man. Granted, given the level of violent rhetoric at Trump rallies the protestor’s judgement in so visibly making his feelings known wasn’t that great, but for Trump to offer praise to ruffians is just one more example of Trump’s true nature.

Let’s contrast this with President Obama’s reaction to a man holding a pro-Trump sign at a Hillary rally this week. When folks in the audience began booing and taunting the protestor, President Obama shouted them down, and after getting their attention reminded them to be respectful of the man’s right to free speech under our Constitution. 

Donald Trump has dangerous ideas about what it means to hold office. His friendship with Putin might be giving him ideas. Couple that with his strange relationship with members of the FBI, and his endorsement by the Police union, and it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to imagine a change in the way our First Amendment is observed. 

For the love of our country’s freedoms get out and vote for Hillary Clinton. Please don’t put your trust in a demagogue who encourages violence and disrespects women.

Today, While I was driving around the county, providing community mental health services to people who would be most negatively impacted by a Trump Presidency, I realized that the Trump campaign signs needed editing to more accurately reflect the affect of his campaign on the state of interpersonal relations in this country. When I got home, I decided to make my feelings on this subject crystal clear by designing this postage stamp.

Endorsements Should Mean Something

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time you know I’m a Liberal. I enthusiastically support Hillary Clinton as the most qualified candidate in the 2016 election. She perhaps is the most qualified candidate in history. 


Most major newspapers agree with me, and I thought it would be interesting to look at a list of the papers who have endorsed each of the candidates. The publication, Mother Jones, did a great job of comparing newspaper endorsements and comparing them to endorsements in the 2012 election:

Just in case you don’t have time to read the entire Mother Jones article, here’s a rundown of all of the papers who supported Mitt Romney, the GOP candidate in 2012, but are supporting Hillary Clinton, the Democrat in 2016:

Altogether, Hillary has garnered endorsements from forty newspapers. 

Only the Las Vegas Review Journal has endorsed Trump during the Presidential campaign; although, the tabloids National Enquirer, and The New York Observer (owned by Trump’s son-in-law), along with the New York Post, and one small California paper came out in support of the Republican candidate during the primaries. Oh, Trump also picked up an endorsement from the The Crusader, the official newspaper of the white supremacist group, the Ku Klux Klan. While Trump’s campaign was quick to turn down the KKK’s support, the fact that Trump is their guy speaks volumes. 

Oddly enough Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson has picked up more major endorsements than Trump (Chicago Tribune, Detroit News, and Richmond Times-Dispatch).
When 13 traditionally conservative newspapers snub the GOP candidate in favor of the Democrat shouldn’t the voting populace take notice? I’m with her, and so are the majority of thinking individuals.

“Hey, Sis?  You realize that the guy who’s selling you the laptop lives out in Frackville, right?”

I leaned over my sister’s shoulder and whispered a few non-English swearwords.  “Why the hell would he be out there?”

“I dunno.”

“So this means I have to go outside the city limits, then.”

“It’s only an hour’s drive beyond the wall.”  My sister shrugged.  “People do it all the time and they’re fine.  Katie went outside just two weeks ago to visit family.”

Mother emerged from the living room, her face drawn.  “Right into the middle of the Disturbance.  This laptop worth this to you?”

“I need a laptop to do my work.  No worries, Mom.”
