Surrendering to Love

Surrendering to Love
By Leslie Noyes

Hate is thick out there
Marching through the city streets
Tearing us apart

Love is present, too
Quieter, yet pervasive
Calling for action

Now we have the choice
To which do we surrender?
I'll always choose love

Learning to Fly

First, unclog your mind
Rid yourself of weighty thoughts
Then simply exhale

Open up your heart
Invite the whole world inside
That's the best advice

Now, leap fearlessly
Behold the wide world below
Yearning to embrace

Wings And Such

Wings appear fragile
Yet carry an angel’s weight
To heaven and back.

Invisible winds,
Can their currents carry us
Away, far away?

Will my feet hold firm
On this shifting gauzy sky,
A wispy cloud’s whim?

Anthem

Anthem
by Leslie Noyes

Standing tall and proud
Voices raised in joyful praise
An anthem for us

Outside looking in
The disenfranchised hear but
An anthem for some

Until all are free
The lyrics are merely words
An anthem for none

Driving Away

Driving Away
by
Leslie Noyes

At her lowest point
Her car felt like salvation
Four wheels to freedom

Lock the doors and breathe,
Imagine the horizon
Turn the key and drive

A full tank of gas,
She neared the city’s limits
Never crossed the line

He Loves Me; He Loves Me Not

Little white daisies
Sweet petals to pluck in play
He loves me, or not

Lovers of the light
Faces turned toward the sun
Bathing in its glow

Demurest blossoms
Woven in virginal wreaths
On a summer’s day

A Plague

Swept away by fire,
Or was it locusts we fled?
Regardless, death loomed

Pestilence prevailed
By air, mosquitos swarmed us
Nameless diseases

For big oil’s pleasure
We abdicated our role
A plague on our house

Learning to Tango

Languid summer days
She governed the promenade
Immune to the heat

All the fellows watched
The sway of hips hypnotic
Sweet intoxicant

Heady liaisons
Held inside striped cabanas
Learning to tango

Still Waters

Still Waters
by Leslie Noyes

Somber is this lake,
Now ponderous and heavy;
Egrets sleep in shade.

The weight of water,
Unbearably burdensome,
Lulls the unwary.

Still, mosquitos buzz,
Challenging the status quo,
Daring lake to move

As the Lightning Strikes

Lightning strikes and then
Nothing is ever the same
Start again from scratch

Wild bolts sear the sky
Blinding electricity
Frissons gone frantic

That hush afterwards
Silence rushing to fill space
Anticipation
