Snapshot #174

Normally I’m the photographer for my numbered snapshot series, but in this case it was an anonymous camera at Disney’s Magic Kingdom that took the shot. I call this one, “Studly and I Protect the Universe!”

Palinode (salt, mask, descent)

I’m sharing the beautiful words of Robert Okaji this morning. Enjoy. robertokaji.com

Palinode (salt, mask, descent)

Tracing the map to the swaying places, she rises
through the interior world, garnering peace by
syllable. Water, clouds and sand mark her ascent.
The expectation is return, renewal. My friend did not
awaken this morning, and tonight I praise her
passage with drink and song. Matter into spirit,
mountain into sky, redemption, freedom. We bathe in
light, reclaiming the liminal. Our tears evaporate,
leaving salt and untrod paths in our wake.

The paths in our wake delimit the future, but
everything falls. Which do we desire more, the grasp
or its release? That instant preceding fear defines a
yearning particular to its course, a cycle of regression
and progress: ancestors descend into human or
animal form, die, depart to the heavens, and return
anew. Distilled power, a bridge to the spirits, the
mask unshutters and conceals the conscious mind.
Opening my eyes, I…

I took a picture of my dining room. I’m calling this one, “I Went Outside to Take Photos of the Local Flora, but the Local Fauna Swarmed Me Causing Me to Curse and to Slap Myself about the Head and Neck.”

Snapshot #172

Normally I don’t use my blog to endorse products, and no one is paying me to promote this one, but if you’ve got a smelly vehicle (and boy, did Studly have a smelly vehicle!) this stuff is da bomb!

Let’s call this one, “Well Done, Turtle Wax Odor-X! Well Done!”

Snapshot #171

I snapped this photo of a page from young adult author, Brandon Mull’s newest Fablehaven series offering. I call this one, “Great Thoughts for Young Minds.” It’s actually worthy of being stitched onto a pillow.

What’s the Matter with Them?

Jan Wilberg understands a thing or two about conservative thinking. I sure wish I’d written this piece. Read more at redswrap.wordpress.com.

I come from a long, very long line of conservative Republican ‘you made your bed, now lie in it’ people. My ancestors were a pretty unforgiving bunch. You make mistakes, you pay for it. You’re down and out, find your bootstraps.

‘The world doesn’t owe you a living’ could have been stitched on my bibs.

So I get the animosity toward the concept of hand-outs. I don’t necessarily agree with it since I know there are many factors that contribute to someone’s being down and out including bad luck. I have learned that you can do everything right and fail. It’s a conundrum and unfair as hell but completely true. Deny the effect of luck and you’re a fool on your way to a cliff.

But still I get it about ‘reaping what you sow’ and all the other sayings of my growing up and so the hard edge of the…

I panicked when I realized I hadn’t taken a picture for the blog today. Fortunately, the subject needn’t be deep, just close at hand.  I call this one, “My Left Foot, Not the Film, the Appendage.” (Note the bandage. I believe I was bitten by a radioactive spider and will soon develop super powers, or not.)

Celebrating the Loss of Healthcare for Millions

Please read this piece by alotfromlydia.wordpress.com. We MUST insure these greedy, heartless bastards, these sad excuses for human beings are not reelected in 2018.

It was a day worth celebrating for Republican supporters of the bill repealing healthcare benefits offered in the Affordable Care Act. Their “win,” which if followed by another “win” in the Senate, will result in countless deaths is a reason to celebrate—for them. The wealthiest country in the free world, it would appear, has the greediest politicians.

Our retribution will come on Election Day. The following members of the House of Representatives who voted yes are up for reelection next year:
*Jason Chaffetz was all smiles as he rolled in to vote yes on the bill that cuts healthcare coverage for millions of taxpayers— after having had his own elective surgery on a preexisting condition—paid for by tax payers.

The phrase that comes to mind when I think of this attitude toward healthcare is “There but for the grace of God go I.” I live in recognition that others misfortunes…

My new washer and dryer arrived today exactly one month from the day a lightning strike rendered my washer unrepairable. I call this one, “I Hereby Christen You Ida and Oscar. Long May You Launder!”
