A Facebook friend started a little guessing game on the social media app and it’s now gone viral. The idea is to list ten concerts and have your friends guess which one you haven’t attended.
I tried to play. I did. But when I realized that all of my groups seemed rather lame compared to those of my friends and acquaintances I deleted the post in progress. I didn’t have the Stones or Paul McCartney or Elton John on my list. No, I had Merle Haggard and Tanya Tucker, Charlie Pride and Brooks and Dunn. Big acts in their day, but I definitely have concert envy after reading some of my friends’ lists.
But just for grins, here are ten concert acts. See if you can guess the one I didn’t see in person. And try not to make fun of my taste in music.
1. Dixie Chicks
2. Three Dog Night
3. The Fifth Dimension
4. The Cowsills
5. Hootie and the Blowfish
6. Huey Lewis and the News
7. The Captain and Tennille
8. Garth Brooks
9. Boyz 2 Men
10. Foghat

Hey, not such a bad list. I don’t know who Foghat is. But I am going to guess the you did not see the Cowsills.

I’ve seen the Cowsills four times! At the height of their career in Lubbock, then in Levelland and Canyon when they were playing small colleges. The fourth time wasn’t a concert–my family ran into them BEFORE they hit the big time at a small cafe in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Susan Cowsill and I had a stare down of sorts while I tried to figure out where I’d seen them before. When I got home I realized who they were. Kicked myself for years afterward. I had such a crush on John Cowsill. He often tours as the drummer for the Beach Bots nowadays.

Great list! I’m guessing you didn’t see Boyz 2 Men.

Actually I did! I took my daughter and two of her friends to see them in Kansas City.

I have seen Garth. Martina McBride opened for him in Bismarck, North Dakota. Good guess, though!

Hey lady, three’s nothing wrong with your list. Bottom line, even given there’s one there you ain’t seen, there’s a lot you have xxxxx

And I had to leave several off to get it down to ten!

Well, I might struggle to make 10. I’ve seen certain folks a few times. We are into smaller venues when it comes to live music x

Nothing is wrong with your list. I loved the Cowsills too, my crush was Barry. Never got to see them though. ☹ . I’m going to guess The Captain and Tenille.

I for one am impressed by your Cowsill “bedpost notch.” They still have one of the greatest lines in popular music: “Oh say can you see my eyes, if you can, then my hair’s too short.” Of course, I know they didn’t actually write “Hair” but I’ve always chosen to believe they did because their version of that song is the definitive one. I was so in love with John. I’d imagined or wedding and our future children.

Late to the game here, and I haven’t as of yet read replies…. I suspect that The Captain and Tennille set was the one that wasn’t on your table.

You are correct, oh wise one. I’m not sure they toured widely. But I styled my hair like Toni Tennille before she made it popular.

I picked ‘em because I felt Toni Tennille’s career had moved to that Great American Songbook thing by the time that you would have been concert going. But at first blush I felt Three Dog Night had not been graced by your presence.
And I’m surprised to learn that Bismarck, North Dakota is, a for real place. I once smart ass-ly replied to a young lady I was dating that if I were every to marry I wanted to honeymoon in Bismarck. Soon I started receiving a mess of tourist mash notes from the State of North Dakota travel bureau.
And as you’re a fan of Hootie And The Blowfish

Bismarck, while a nice small city, and the capital of the state, would not be much of a honeymoon spot.
Three Dog Night was awesome! Saw them in Amarillo, TX my senior year of high school.
And Hootie I saw at Universal Studios in Orlando during their big Mardi Gras event. Great concert!

I’d forgotten that Darius had done that commercial! He’s gone country for good now and I guess the Blowfish are a thing of the past.

Not a bad list. You have nothing to be ashamed for, concert going is awesome, almost regardless of the artist. There is usually something good to experience there. Live music rules!
I post about concerts on my blog too, feel free to check them out. 🙂

I think the artists you’ve seen are pretty cool! I’n jealous that you’ve seen Hootie and the Blowfish, Huey Lewis and the News, and Garth Brooks! Those are all on my bucket list. I recently seen Foghat back in May and I thought they were pretty fun to watch 🙂

Thanks! I was just rereading the comments and noted that I said that Hootie and the Blowfish were gone for good. So happy they’ve come together again for another tour.

I was never a Hootie and Blowfish fan – but had brothers so I knew Foghat growing up….
and did not know how much you loved concerts 🙂

I would still attend concerts if my husband enjoyed them. He barely pays attention to music, and has no interest in going into an arena with thousands of crazy fans.

yeah – I had seasons where you couldn’t;t pay me to go to a live venue – but just this last year or two I have started to enjoy a few again

I’ve been trying to get a crew of concert buddies together for upcoming events. It’s hard, though!
