Disclaimer: I have the natural grace of a boulder.
Binge watching the series Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team might lead to delusions of grandeur, or a case of severe depression. I didn’t intend to binge watch, but after one episode I had grown fond of a couple of the rookie wannabes.
Before long I was standing in front of the television shaking my imaginary pompoms and tossing my hair to the music. I’m quite good when nobody’s watching.
Then I was sobbing uncontrollably when Melissa H. a small town girl from somewhere in Idaho, failed to make the team, and had to return to the Midwest, a victim of shattered dreams all because her kicks weren’t quite high enough.
Maybe it’s time to take my antidepressant.

I must be getting old. Twenty years ago I might have been looking at the faces and the legs, but nowadays I’m just looking enviously at the tummies and wishing mine was roughly the same shape.

I’m always a little disgusted by the demeanor of the cheerleading coaches. They put the cat in catty.

Yes, cattiness is not nice, no matter how important something is to somebody.

I don’t think we have cheerleaders down here?! You guys are so into it over there!

Way into it.

It is not a cult over here… I dunno… I would spend my energy for something meaningful in that age.

The show is so traumatic! These girls have pinned all their hopes on a job that pays almost nothing.

I guess so… Cheerleading is a cultural thing. Would be very silly of me to start discussing this part of American culture 🙂 All I can tell – I don’t understand it because it wasn’t such a big deal being a cheerleader when I grew up. No crowds of volunteers 🙂 We would rather play the game 🙂

It’s an unfortunate American phenomenon.

Oh it is very American. Their performances are stunning, I have watched a football game once, and was very impressed. It is why we visit other countries, to see something different, but we seldom think about the fact that there is a story behind everything.

I couldn’t make the junior high cheerleading squad I was so awkward! And that’s when the separation begins–the cool kids vs. the geeks. Up to that point we were all friends. It’s a horrible tradition, but we still support it.

From what I have read, I see that cheerleader-type characters are the objects of jokes, but still most of girls want to be one of them 🙂 Of course you should support them. I would too, if we had them 🙂

I admire their ability to walk and chew gum simultaneously.
