Past Life

I was a cat

In a prior life

Of this I am

Certain.

I can sleep for

Hours.

Love napping in the

Sun.

I’ll allow a little

Petting

Just don’t get too

Rough.

My claws are

Sharp, but I keep them

Sheathed

Don’t annoy me

Too much or

I might show my

Teeth.

No one knows my

Thoughts;

Those I keep

Hidden

Behind my Mona Lisa

Smile

I’m still just a

Kitten.

The Family

Why is the Family
Important
In this day and
Time?

Family defines us,
Binds us,
Cradles us,
Refines us.

Family catches us,
Finds us, and
Snatches us
From the brink of
Nothingness.

Family shelters us,
Upholds us,
Reflects us on
Life’s stage.

One who has
Family is never
Alone,
Even if they’d
Sometimes prefer
Solitude.

Idyllic Schmyllic

In response to the Daily Post’s daily prompt: What does your ideal community look like? How is it organized and how is community life structured?

I’ve lived perfect moments:

newborn babies cradled, lips pressing against softest cheeks
strains of music so pure that the soul
expands with every note
hands held on a warm summer night
sunsets shared over a bottle of wine, or two
chasing fireflies and catching none

But a perfect community?

one where every citizen feels welcome, safe, respected?
where no one goes hungry or suffers abuse?
where all ideas are honored and no one claims to know the best path for all.

i’ve not seen that.

peace, people!

Flyday

Flyday, is the next best day to

Slatterday and Stunday

Before Stunday miraculously

Evolves into Stubday when

Thoughts of Glumday

Set in.

Glumday, ughday.

After Glumday

Twosday and Waddlesday

Are only slightly better, but

Slursday is close to nirvana.

TGIFlyday!

Polite Company

may I?
please and
thank you!
after you,
no,
after you.
excuse me
sir,
ma’am.
small words
necessary
words
now, more
than
ever.

Peace, please people!

Delight in D Minor

Daily Post’s Daily Prompt: Pick a letter any letter then write a story, poem, or post in which every line starts with that letter.

Don’t you know, I let Studly (aka David)
Doright decide on my letter?

Delight to
dandelions,
dolphins, and
dragons.

Drink to danger,
departures, and
dalliances.

Dance with
danger,
drama, and
destiny.

Delight to
doggies,
diamonds, and
daisies.

Do it.
Do not
Delay.

D won’t wait even one more
Day.

Sticks and Stones

neither sticks nor stones
or catapulted pavers
can sever one’s soul.
only words spoken
in anger wield that power;
ever guard your tongue.
worthwhile advice yet
spoken much too late to save
me from my nature.

Peace, people!

Moon Me

Count me in
When the full moon rises
I’ll change my tune,
Play hard to get
You’ll try to chase me,
But my heart will make
Me too strong for any
Mortal man to catch.

Full Moon Haiku

full moon, golden orb.
black night’s answer to sun’s light.
sisters of heaven.

fleeting lunar sign
waning body fades to dark,
empty, moon called new.

oh man in the moon,
walk us, watch us, guide us home.
gently hold our hands.

written in response to the Daily Post’s Daily Prompt–Full Moon.

Don’t Tell Me

Don’t tell me your

Secrets.

I have plenty of my own.

Don’t tell me your

Rules

I’ll just break them.

Don’t tell me your

Fears

Lest they trigger mine.

Don’t tell me you’re

Sorry

Unless you truly are.
