Gracie likes the Christmas tree.

Gracie likes the Christmas tree.
World peace, or at least a reasonable
Facsimile thereof.
An end to poverty and love enough to
Go around.
Hands extended in kindness, hearts warmed
In gladness.
Food and drink to nourish every single
Child on earth.
A home for every stray, a warm place to
Shelter from the cold.
Comfort and joy.
Comfort and joy.

Peace, people.
Tallahassee, in the Florida panhandle, might not qualify as a winter wonderland, but that’s not to say the city is totally lacking in Christmas charm. Residents here just have to seek out festive places throughout the holidays and perhaps imagine sitting by the fireplace on a cold winter night.
One of the best locations to put one in a Christmas mood is Tallahassee Nurseries on Thomasville Road. A pleasure to visit year ‘round, the place really shines at this time of year.
I spent an hour yesterday wandering around Tallahassee Nurseries and thought I’d share some of my photos with you. Enjoy!

Peace, people!
For two days I’ve been waiting patiently for Studly Doright to return home so he can put the angel on top of the Christmas tree. I briefly flirted with the idea of getting out the step ladder and doing it myself, but I’m a klutz and at my rather advanced age I don’t heal quickly anymore.
I left the angel on an end table in easy reach of Studly’s chair, so he’d quickly make the connection once he had an opportunity to shower and relax a bit over dinner, but so far he’s managed to ignore it. Finally I asked, “Will you put the angel on the tree?”
“I’m too tired.”
“But, it’s right there and you’re tall and the tree really needs its angel. It’ll take two seconds.”
“Maybe tomorrow.”
Now, that’s tired. maybe I should get that stepladder….

Peace, people.
Today would have been my mom’s 83rd birthday. We lost her to cancer just a couple of months before what would have been her 56th birthday. I miss her every single day, but especially at Christmas.
Mom made Christmas special —something I’ve never quite been able to replicate, and I don’t believe I ever properly thanked her. We just took for granted that she’d always be there to work her magic and that it would never end. She left a bit of it in our memories of her, though. That’s what I call a blessing.
I wrote this piece several years ago. For Mom.
I opened up the Christmas closet on Wednesday and started my annual decorating routine. The tree is up and looking all spiffy with baubles old and new adorning its branches. Best of all, the Nativity scene is perfect this year with all the figurines present and accounted for—unlike a certain year in which a major player went missing. A year I chronicled in the heartwarming tale of The Case of the Missing Mary.
So grab that bottle of whiskey from your desk drawer, pour yourself a stiff drink, sit back, and relax.

Peace on Earth, People!
I’m not ready to say the C word, (That’s Christmas, you filthy animals) but I couldn’t help but notice that the Yule time holiday is taking over before Thanksgiving 2021 is even in the books.
Esposito’s in Tallahassee goes all out on holiday displays, and I had no choice but to take a few photos.

Look what I found dozing among the tree skirts and stockings. Neither creature was stirring as shoppers invaded their space.

I’ll have to make another visit as I begin to get in the mood for that holiday.
Peace, people!
Is there a twelve step program for people addicted to Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies? Asking for someone near and dear to me.

Could we turn this into a drinking game?
Peace, people.
Having a cup of coffee on this chilly Christmas morning before I switch to mimosas. Coffee to wake up; mimosas to relax me enough to cook. It’s not a precise science, but I’m willing to take that risk.

Merry Christmas to you and to those you love. I hope this day finds you safe and warm and healthy. I love you all.
Peace, and love, people.
Studly Doright and I had a great time hanging out with our daughter and her family in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, last week. We ate a lot, played a bunch of fun games, enjoyed an indoor snowball fight with fake snowballs, played an intense Christmas game, and opened presents.
The week began rather inauspiciously when a bear made him/herself at home in my car, decimating a can of peanut brittle, but doing very little damage to the car. We apparently hosted a considerate bear.

My daughter stepped outside just in time to take these photos on the morning after we discovered the car incident. Wonder if this was our culprit:

The remainder of the trip was bear-free; although, we were on constant guard any time we were outside. Just look at this view from our deck:

I’ll leave you with photos of my loved ones. We sure missed having our son and his family with us this year, but were so happy to be with part of the family after such a stressful year. I needed the hugs.

Hoping your holidays are bear free.
Peace, people!
