On Hold

What’s the longest amount of time you’ve spent in one session on hold? Until yesterday, my all time record was probably two hours. Then I made a call to make reservations at Disney World. I was on the phone for three hours. Granted, I was only on hold for about two hours, but those two hours were filled with snippets of Disney songs. It was almost like being stuck on the Small World ride, only the songs changed periodically, so I guess it was a step up.

Now, Disney regulars would ask, “Why didn’t you just make reservations on the Disney website?”

That’s a good question. I was tempted to use the website, but I hoped that by talking to an actual human I could figure out a more tailored package to suit my needs. And, as it turned out, I was right. And the Disney representatives were so darned cheerful that I almost forgot about the wait time and the annoying music. Almost. Hence the post.

In the end, the three hours were totally worth it, but dadgum it, now I can’t get the Indiana Jones theme song out of my head.

Dun duh duh duh, Dun da dun dun dun…

    1. When one has no choice but to wait on hold, one waits. I was so paranoid as I waited for someone to pick up. Worried that I might accidentally hang up and have to go to the end of the queue.

I would really question myself and any need to wait that long on the phone, especially after my last 2 hour experience of waiting only to be told I could not accomplish my task in any way except by mail. Just scheduled my mammogram and they have a nifty online form so you can be called at a time convenient for you to be scheduled rather than waiting in the queue. That method worked extremely well and she called within the time frame I gave her.

    1. Yes! The lady I spoke to first at Disney assisted in getting me the reservations I wanted and the tickets for the theme park, but then she said she’d connect me with the CSR who links all that information up with my Disney account. Right now, because of Covid, guests to the park have to make reservations to visit a specific park on a specific day. The ticket itself is only proof that you’ve paid. It’s totally weird. So that added an hour and a half to the process.

  2. Have you tried to call Social Security? Ungodly. And no cute music, either. Just that ridiculous statement: “Your call is important to us.” It became a game with me trying to inject some inappropriate words in the mix…..😤😬
