I received a message on Facebook today from a guy who seemed interested in buying my book. I directed him to Amazon, then he came back with this:
Can anyone explain why someone would think this is all right? Then he had the nerve to say, “I hope I didn’t offend you.” Weird.

That whole encounter could take so many different directions…all of them most likely not positive. Did you look him up on FB to see background info and such? Of course that does not make it all okay, but I would want to know if he was just a garden variety oddball or ranging into the creeper realm.

That is weird. I know books that are public domain can be downloaded in a pdf file. But your novel is NOT public domain. Maybe something nefarious is going on like he wants to steal your work? Bizarre.

Maybe, although, looking at his photos on Facebook that doesn’t seem to be the case. Of course, those might not be his photos either….

People who always consume and never create always think they can get something for free or at least for “mates rates”. They never stop to consider the time it takes to make something from scratch.

So one can can covert you book from PDF to epub or what every, skipping a step, and then sell it under a slightly different title….or the guy has sight problems…. I’m just cynical…I’m sure it’s all an innocent incident…. but I would run a paragraph or two through an online plagiarism site every so often. But your husband’s more likely right.

You have to consider the fact thet he intended to either market it himself or post it to a pirated site. I have seen so many really ugly things since I first set foot on this journey. Definitely something to keep an eye out for.
