Someone on Facebook posted an essay about the perverse way we women have of saving the good stuff for a special occasion. It reminded me of an Erma Bombeck quote:
“…I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage. I would have talked less and listened more. I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded. I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace. …I would have sat on the lawn with my kids, even if it meant grass stains.”
I’m guilty of each one of these transgressions. But this morning, knowing I’d perhaps see no one other than my cat and, at the end of the day, my husband, Studly Doright, I indulged in wearing my favorite perfume—the seriously expensive stuff my daughter-in-law bought for me last Christmas.
Now, I can’t stop smelling my glorious self. It’s seriously hurting my productivity. Still, I smell AMAZING.

Peace, people.
That is what I realized was missing once I retired. Never mind that I didn’t hardly get dressed any more–T-shirt and shorts being ‘dressed.’ I no longer wore make-up or jewellry, but I was not wearing perfume. That was always the last thing I did before I walked out the door to work–spritzed on perfume. I have now made that a daily ritual. We do smell good, don’t we?!

We do! I have on my “ Ridin’ With Biden” t-shirt, Jean capris, and perfume that costs easily four times what my outfit did.

I’ve had a meal where the host cleaned the table in front of each guest DURING the meal! It was unnerving.

Well… how familiar does that sound. Once she had this get together in her house after a fancy golden wedding affair and firstly she stopped me on the stairs cos I had a pile of why did I need all these sandwiches. These were for me, my mr, my cousin and her hubby. Then she came round with a brush and shovel and started sweeping up the crumbs. My cousin is a ballet material buyer and her man is a ballet composer, well known who had just flown back from rescuing some Chicago ballet production. Not that it matters who or what you are but I was just thinking of the shoulders he’d have rubbed that week . His jaw was on the deck, so the four of us bailed to our house, opened the vino and played the piano. But even then there was a fuss about how we were not taking the lift home from her daughter….. Do you blame us???

It was toe bunchign actually. I mean, come on, cleaning up is for after everyone has gone when we have one more wee glass with our feet up then we get to it just the same.

Always true. We humans are in perpetual denial.

We want happy endings. There’s no such thing. The nest that can be said about an ending is that it brought closure

I do okay with this in some areas, but not all. I’ve started fixing some of my “special occasion” meals throughout the rest of the year. I really love those meals so why on earth am I only allowing myself to have it once or twice a year?

We have turkey and dressing several times of year. My husband loved them so.

Smelling lovely is most important, and definitely not for saving for a rainy day.

Agreed! Smelling good really brightened my day. I might’ve smiled at people; although, with my mask on, no one could tell.

I have heard about this one a lot, but unfortunately, the brand is not available in Croatia which means it will take some time until I get my hands on any Le Labo. 🙂 Great explanation!

It’s seriously the most seductive scent I’ve ever encountered. And I always receive compliments when i wear it.
