Georgia on My Mind for all the Wrong Reasons

Georgia’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp, is opening up businesses in his state beginning Friday, I believe. Hair salons, barber shops, nail salons—will be considered essential.

Now, you might ask, “Why should that worry you? Don’t you live in Florida?”

Well, yes I do.

In the map above, locate Tallahassee. We live just north of there, and south of Quincy. Georgia is just a few miles north of Quincy. Lots of folks who live in my part of the state work in Georgia, and a bunch of Georgia residents work in Florida. So, you see why I’m concerned, right?

Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis is a Trump sycophant, so it won’t be long before he follows suit, opening our beaches and theme parks before the Corona virus has reached its peak.

At least DeSantis hasn’t yet said we should be happy to die if it means saving the economy as Texas lieutenant governor Dan Patrick has declared on more than one occasion. Florida has way too many elderly people in residence for DeSantis to say such a thing out loud. But you just know he’s thinking it.

I don’t know about you, but this 63-year-old isn’t sacrificing herself to make Trump’s economy look good. Pardon my language, but fuck that noise.

Peace, people.

    1. One of my savvy political friends said reopening the states has more to do with cutting down the astronomical unemployment figures than anything else. They’ll send these minimum wage earners back to jobs that are likely to be unprofitable right now so they can bring the unemployment numbers down.

  1. Every day, I see and hear this stuff and wonder…when will this nightmare be over?

Ontario is very close to Florida. How often do Canadians from my province consider Florida an American province? Or a Canadian State?

Do your thing. Keep and stay safe. Common sense will prevail. It has to.

  2. I’m so glad to hear that residents of these States are demonstrating common sense. Putting money over lives is short sighted in many ways. You are making the right choice. Stay safe.

  3. I’m all about that last line! Pretty disgusted by so much right now and why I’ve been doing my best to skim the headlines enough to know the world isn’t blowing up yet before I bury my nose back in another book. Do I want to be able to watch my son walk across the stage to get his HS diploma or my daughter to perform in her recital? Hell yes I do! Those are huge moments for both of them that they worked their tails off to get to, but I am more than fine with those things not happening if it means keeping everyone safe and healthy. I also want to be alive to see those things when it is safe to do so. I want them to be alive to do those things. I certainly don’t want my desire to have those moments to be more important than someone else’s health and life.

      1. Hahaha! That reminds me of when my son was a little guy. Maybe three. We walked into a cafe that had a video game in the foyer. He pointed at it and said, “Look mommy, it’s son of a bitch!” I was so embarrassed. He thought that was the name of the game because apparently I said “son of a bitch” a great deal when I played it.

      2. That is EPIC> I love it. My younger girl never spoke you know and then when she finally did was her own language. She was obvi one of these alien babies. Anyway, eventually she did indeed start to learn English and of her first five words, four were cuss words.

  4. It is nuts to open back up with a lot of carriers around….BUT I also feel the desperation of the lady that owns the flower shop and whose kid needs insulin….now if you just want Olive Garden to reopen …fuck you , drive through Wendy’s.

  5. No need to apologize for your language. I can understand, to some degree, the idea of being patriotic, and sacrificing yourself for the good of your country or your community. But to sacrifice myself–or more likely my parents–for some corporation’s profit margin, or for Trump’s approval ratings? Fuck that noise, indeed.

  6. Yup, stay home, isolate as best you can, and don’t get thrown under the bus with the rest of the fools that think this thing is a joke. Look at the daily figures in UK, they are in big trouble but feel they have hit the peak – only time will tell if that is true. Stay safe.

  7. Me either, Leslie. I am glad that our governor is being very cautious about openings. She allowed garden stores/departments to open and golf courses as long as folks don’t use golf carts. That sounds reasonable. But tattoo parlors, nail salons, massage spas…. WHAT?????
