On Saturday afternoon I arrived home to Doright Manor after having spent the past week in Dallas. While I was gone a guy named Michael blew through the Florida panhandle and redecorated without asking permission.
We had our electricity restored on Sunday evening. Studly Doright said it had been out since Tuesday afternoon. We have a generator that kept lights on in parts of the house, but neither our hot water heater nor our stove were hooked up to it. Apparently they require too much amperage or wattage or something electricity based to be powered by the generator. At least the air conditioning worked! Soon after the power came on I enjoyed a hot shower. Best feeling ever.
Here are a few photos I’ve taken of the damage just in our neighborhood. And, we got off easy compared to folks on the coast. These were taken after a crew came through and cleaned up! We still have a lot of work ahead of us.
Peace, people.

Looks like those trees missed any structures, which is something to be happy about. I can’t imagine living in one of the coastal towns with absolutely nothing left…

I know. It could be 8 months before some of those coastal areas have electricity again. And I don’t think Mexico Beach will ever recover.

You will be one busy woman for the next few weeks I suspect. I keep thinking of my first husband who was named Michael and all the destruction he created in his wake. Glad all in the Doright Manor are okay.

I have a nephew named Michael who’s quite calm. I was hoping that would be the case with this storm. Didn’t go that way.

Even though there are varying magnitudes of destruction, when it hits one’s own home, it’s bad.

I’m glad you made it home safely! My prayers are with you all as you attempt to clean up. It must be hard coming home to so much devastation. 😦

Thank you so much. My husband had prepared me somewhat for what I would see, but it’s still overwhelming. I just signed up to volunteer in coastal communities. Trying to get my mind ready for an much greater level of destruction.

Geez, it still looks like Michael had one hell of a rampage there. Just a few more weeks, and we’re finally out of Hurricane season. Whew! – Marty
