City girl always
dresses for dinner,
has drinks at six
at a cafe
by the river.
Country girl still
cooks biscuits
and gravy each
Sunday morning for
breakfast with family.
Come live here
in the big metroplex
City Girl pleads
to her rustic
relative.
We’ll dance ’til dawn,
and see the sights
chitchat with
politicians and rich
socialites.
No thanks, said the
Country Girl, I’m
happy out here,
but you come see me
and we’ll share a beer.
I’ll fry up a chicken
with all of the fixings
then we’ll sit on
the porch and solve
all the world’s issues.
I think I’ll pass,
City Girl said
I don’t think I’m
suited for a life
that’s so bland.

I think I prefer the sound of the country girl’s lifestyle, although maybe I’d feel differently if I actually lived in the countryside. I certainly don’t like the sound of dancing till dawn very much. Sleeping till dawn and then adding an extra couple of hours for good measure sounds more my pace.

I’m with you; although, there was a time in my life when I thought I’d missed out by not being a city girl. My friends were all living it up and I was raising two kids in a small town.

Well, I guess it’s another one of those things connected to the lawn being more verdant on the other side of the encircling boundary. (Hmm, I can’t help thinking I haven’t got the wording quite right here.)

I always thought I’d enjoy being a city girl, but it’s probably better that I wasn’t.
