As Lanie strolled along the tree lined pathways that meandered through the urban park, she often imagined living in one of the apartments overlooking the venue. One with a balcony where a wide array of plants in multi-colored pots competed for their place in the sun.
Of course she knew there were times when the goings on in the park might distract from her peace. The solstices, when virgins were offered up in exchange for safe passage between the seasons, would be particularly messy. Better, perhaps, to stay in her current dwelling, where the only inconvenience might be the occasional burglary.
Well where’s the rest? Do not stop at “short story” please. Virgin sacrifices are right up my alley.

Honestly, I had no intention of writing a short story! I was walking in this beautiful park in Tallahassee, gazing up at the new condos and wishing I lived in one that overlooked the park. Then, bam! There were sacrifices and such. I could smell the blood. Kind of creeped me out on a very lovely spring day.

Well it gives off a very dystopian sort of vibe. Take more walks there and have a notebook handy!

I like to imagine worlds in which everything appears normal on the surface, but just beneath the surface it gets really screwy.
