Yesterday I was feeling pretty high after I voted. Happy, happy, happy, and optimistic.
I’d worn blue from top to bottom (even my undies were blue) and once I had that “I Voted” sticker I decided to run some errands.
I was in the checkout line at Walmart, keeping a nice social distance from the folks in front of me when I sensed someone standing right behind me. I moved up a couple of steps. They followed. Finally I turned around and said, “You go in front of me. I feel uncomfortable with you standing so close.”
Then I realized this woman, about my age, didn’t have on a mask. I should’ve kept my mouth shut, but sometimes it operates independently of my brain.
“Good grief. You don’t even have on a mask. What is wrong with you?”
“Oh, maybe I have one in my pocket,” she smirked. She actually smirked.
Before I could do anything more stupid, I walked away and miraculously found a register that had just opened. Karma?
The whole thing brought my mood down for a second or two, but dang. What’s up with some people?!
Trying to remember: Peace, people.

Let us hope there are enough sane ones

I go from super optimistic to glumly pessimistic several times during the same hour.

Ugh. The unmasked. What kills me is they cannot even see my angry expression with my mask on. Wear the damn mask, people!!

I know! My glare and my smile look about the same.

This drives me nuts. Them and the ones that think wearing a mask below your nose is still okay. Seriously?!

Like that does any good at all! We’re driving north through Georgia today. Very few masks I’m evidence here.

We drive from the Panhandle, hit all our favorite places in Tallahassee and then head north to Thomasville. Not this year, and I miss it so.

What are your favorite places in Tallahassee? I drive over there almost every day.

We always have to stop at Tally Nurseries and Dorothy B Oven for our ‘walk in nature.’ Bella Bella for great food and Cascade Park for food and nature. That is the best park! Plus Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, which we don’t have in my neck of the woods. Why not??!!

I’ve never eaten at Bella Bella, but I love all the other places you mentioned. Have you ever eaten at Koop Beanz?

I’ve not! Is that where you get your vegan lunches? We are staying so close to home and Tallahassee is not really a day trip and I am not ready to stay at a hotel. I am gonna bust outta here when Covid is over. Tallahassee/Thomasville is where we will head first. We both love it there.

Koop Beanz isn’t vegan, but it’s one of THE best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. They’re on the pricey side, but always an incredible meal. I do think they’re closed during the pandemic. Hoping they make a comeback.

Kool, not Koop. I have two vegan places I go: Sweet Pea and The Bark.

Thank you! I have added them to our places to go when we can actually go places.

They’re both funky little places, but the food is good.

That’s so rude. Not wearing a mask is one thing, but to move closer when you’re obviously moving away from her is next level arse-holery!

Your President has a lot to answer for. Glad you simply moved away, you don’t need a Karen style confrontation.

You can’t fix stupid, but you can hold it accountable. Good for you! John

Thanks! It’s kind of nerve-wracking after the fact since so many people here carry guns.

“But doctor, I really need that ventilator!”
“Oh, maybe I have one left in my pocket,” he shrugged.
Sorry, my mind went there…I’m not as nice as you are.

I’d kept my mouth shut until that moment! My husband was horrified when I told him. We worry about folks toting guns here.

Yikes, sorry to hear. We’ve got the same risk here in Oregon, to be fair. Sad to say that these days you have to really think twice before expressing a political opinion…or an opinion about something as basic as wearing a mask!!

Better to wear a face shield and mask, sorry for this bad experience. I commiserate.
