Buzzkill

Yesterday I was feeling pretty high after I voted. Happy, happy, happy, and optimistic.

I’d worn blue from top to bottom (even my undies were blue) and once I had that “I Voted” sticker I decided to run some errands.

I was in the checkout line at Walmart, keeping a nice social distance from the folks in front of me when I sensed someone standing right behind me. I moved up a couple of steps. They followed. Finally I turned around and said, “You go in front of me. I feel uncomfortable with you standing so close.”

Then I realized this woman, about my age, didn’t have on a mask. I should’ve kept my mouth shut, but sometimes it operates independently of my brain.

“Good grief. You don’t even have on a mask. What is wrong with you?”

“Oh, maybe I have one in my pocket,” she smirked. She actually smirked.

Before I could do anything more stupid, I walked away and miraculously found a register that had just opened. Karma?

The whole thing brought my mood down for a second or two, but dang. What’s up with some people?!

Trying to remember: Peace, people.

      1. We always have to stop at Tally Nurseries and Dorothy B Oven for our ‘walk in nature.’ Bella Bella for great food and Cascade Park for food and nature. That is the best park! Plus Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, which we don’t have in my neck of the woods. Why not??!!

      2. I’ve not! Is that where you get your vegan lunches? We are staying so close to home and Tallahassee is not really a day trip and I am not ready to stay at a hotel. I am gonna bust outta here when Covid is over. Tallahassee/Thomasville is where we will head first. We both love it there.

      3. Koop Beanz isn’t vegan, but it’s one of THE best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. They’re on the pricey side, but always an incredible meal. I do think they’re closed during the pandemic. Hoping they make a comeback.

      1. Yikes, sorry to hear. We’ve got the same risk here in Oregon, to be fair. Sad to say that these days you have to really think twice before expressing a political opinion…or an opinion about something as basic as wearing a mask!!
