Underneath it all
Down where the anglerfish live
Time stands almost still

No wind, no tossed waves
Just days of isolation
And gullible prey

Below the surface
In the realms where no sun shines
Light attracts, light kills

A little! But when I read the Discover prompt it made me think about depths and I’d just seen a piece about bioluminescent fish in the ocean and voila!

The ‘almost’ is the best use of the word ‘ever’. The whole a splendid metaphor for whatever you, or the reader, want it to be. Best thing I’ve read on this blandist of bland days by a country mile. In short, young Leslie, you nailed it.

These fish win the ugly sea creature contest for sure.

It seems the deeper the waters, the less attractive the fish. I’m sure that’s a metaphor for something.
