Tea Leaves

She seeks the future

In the tea leaves’ swirled remains

Such intriguing shapes

Tasseomancy

From the handle, then clockwise

Reading ’round the cup

What fate awaits her?

Which symbols reveal the tale?

She hovers and yearns

For some reason yesterday morning I responded to a comment on my blog with the phrase “reading tea leaves.” The phrase stuck in my head and formed itself into the poem above.

I’ve never had a tea leaf reading done; although, many years ago I had my palm read. At the time Studly Doright and I lived in Kansas, and the palm reader told me I’d soon be moving to Florida, and that I’d meet my soul mate there. I just laughed at the time, but within the year Studly accepted a transfer to Melbourne, FL. Of course, I already had my soul mate, so I suppose her reading came true, since I meet him at the door almost every night. πŸ˜‰

Peace, people.

  1. Oh, what fun! I’ve never known just what it is they look for. It’s a little like looking at clouds and seeing shapes and images.
I too had a palm reading done, on my honeymoon, no less. She did not predict, or at least reveal, that the marriage would not last, but she did see 3 children and was adamant about that. Thought we were done at 2 then 5 years later a third came into our lives…

    1. That’s pretty cool! I’d like to have my tea leaves read now; although, after doing a bit of research for this article learned that coffee grounds or the dregs from my wine will work, as well. I like wine much more than I do tea!

  2. I have read so many books that will mention reading tea leaves, but I’ve never seen any specifics about how it is done. I’ve been familiar with palm (to a very small extent), pendulum (really simple, but fun), and tarot (complex, but runs along a darker/negative thread), but I’ve never looked into tea leaves. This is so cool! I’m always fascinated with the how and why behind various different forms of divination.

  3. My mom read palms & tarot cards. She was so in tune with a strangers inner self. She never did the tea leaves that I’m aware of. I couldn’t help but think of the scene in Harry Potter when he got The Grimm.
