The Joy of Ice Cream

on hot summer days
the ice cream truck beckons youth
canned music piping
to heat-parched children
scampering through neighborhoods
clamoring for treats.
hey mister stop here!
mommy it’s the ice cream man!
may i have a dime?
please? i’ll fold towels.
we’ll mow the lawn tomorrow!
promises offered
some were even kept.

      1. In the olden days we had the pleasant ones. Nowadays the music is awful. One would need to be insane or deaf to spend the day driving around in one of those contraptions.

      2. We have one – an ice cream van that is – who is about every afternoon when the schools chuck out the kids. I can be writing to a Beethoven backdrop when the bloody thing arrives…sends me insane!

    1. It was a mad scramble to catch the truck on our street. The worst feeling was to hear the music start to fade away before you had money in hand.

  1. A music for my soul! Thank you for the memories ( got a diabetes… ).

When I was answering your comment on my last post, the WP kicked me out so that I had to log in again, and your comment was gone by then 😦 You say you have a piece of Waterford Crystal. So fun 🙂 They cost a fortune now – those Christmas decorations go for 40 dollars each – in summer!

    1. WP is weird!
I knew the ornaments were pricy. It’s something I’d never have bought for myself with 2 rambunctious cats in my house. A friend gave it to me several years ago. Now and then I take it out and admire it. I keep thinking I’ll purchase a small case for it, but I am the queen of procrastination, don’t you know.

      1. Didn’t they come in a case?
The prices went up almost twice since 2005. That time a bought a little harp for my daughter and paid 25 euro. They had broken the harp last year, and I bought them a new one – this time for 40 euro…

      2. Mine did not come in a case, but it has a beautiful hanger and a stand. I could imagine the cats batting at it and knocking it onto the floor.
