Parade

She sat on the tailgate
of an old green Ford,
her narrow denim clad hips
wedged between an Igloo cooler
and a box of faded red rags.
Scuffed boots swinging.

The whoop whoop of a siren
heralded the coming display
of a starched color guard,
eliciting a respectful salute,
grandparents demonstrating
flag etiquette for the young.

Then came beauty queens smiling,
perching precariously on the
pinnacle of a tissue paper
decorated semi-trailer in gowns
of taffeta, satin, and lace.
Tiaras glittering in the sun.

She waved at those high school
princesses, pulling funny
faces to make them laugh.
That was her talent, after all.
Hardly anyone took her
seriously as the parade passed.

Marching bands from rival
schools vied for favor
as the sun heated the summer
Texas day; twirlers in spangled
shorts tossing batons inspired
ooohs and ahhs from the crowd.

Reaching inside the battered
Igloo, she dug deep…

How’s this for something different? I call it “Studly’s Foot Watching Golf.”

He has a nice foot, don’t you think?

No Sympathy for the Devil. Evil Doesn’t Deserve Civility.

Righteous!

You seem really angry.

It wasn’t really a statement. Or a question. It was an accusation. It was two days after the election. Two days after we elected an openly racist man who bragged about sexually assaulting women. My anger had apparently ruffled my acquaintance.

Yeah. I was angry. Livid. Sad. Terrified.

But I didn’t say any of that. I offered a smile. I tilted my head and I placated and soothed. My voice curled around words that I didn’t mean. My head screamed at him in anger Why are you NOT angry?

My soft voice and my traitorous smile were on autopilot. I blame my conditioning, but that’s really just a cop out.

We were raised on polite and nice. The Golden Rule and “how do you do’s.” We were taught that politics and religion should never be discussed in polite company.

Our politics are shrouded in coded language. Abuses are minimized…

Trump’s Three Ring Circus

From one of my favorite bloggers.

Where to look…

Ring 1—

They’re Taking Away Our Social Services TODAY:

The Republican majority just voted to pass the House 2019 budget, rejecting every amendment offered by Democrats. This is, in part, to cover the $15 trillion added to the federal deficit with the GOP Tax Cut for the wealthy, and corporate America.

The GOP House worked tirelessly, behind the scenes, to pass their budget, out of committee:

  • Ending SNAP, The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for 1.5 million veterans and 23,000 active duty households who rely on food stamp benefits.
  • Issuing a fast track repeal of the Affordable Care Act, bringing back the pre-existing condition.
  • Cutting $2 TRILLION from Medicare and Medicaid.

The Center Ring—

They do not plan to stop taking children:

The main spectacle we are witnessing comes in the form of human rights violations, targeting children, devised by Stephan Miller, taking place under the supervision of…

What a Patriot Dreams

I saw the flags come down—
in a scene that scrolled in slo-mo,
& from multiple vantages—
their masts falling like the trees
flattened by shockwaves
in those clips of old footage
from military nuclear bomb tests,
spliced into documentaries
for high school history classes;

except, my dream version’s vivid images
weren’t the projected celluloid etchings
that teenagers confined to plastic chairs
could summarily cancel from sight
with one hand motioning No
in the universal vernacular.

From a sweeping arc of floodlights
that rendered the indigo skyline
of an early-summer dusk starless,
the flags all vanished at once—
their wingless, red-white-blue heaps
crushing in on themselves, darkening,
& dropping like torn parachutes.

Sleep’s last claim on my consciousness
was that horizon of empty haloes
the mass plummet had left behind,
before my eyes fluttered open
to this morning’s first, grainy insinuations
that breached the blinds’…

Trump Tries a New Story on for Size

alotfromlydia's avatarA lot from Lydia

“I think Comey was the ringleader of this whole den of thieves. It was a den of thieves they were plotting against my election. Probably it’s never happened like that in terms of intelligence and in terms of anything else — but they were actually plotting against my election.” Donald J Trump June 16, 2017

The man lies knowing full well there is proof on film that he is lying.

https://youtu.be/8mKxeo67fn4

Why does he continue to lie so blatantly? Because it works. His tactic of repeating lies until they are accepted as fact got him elected. And they keep his “people sitting up at attention when he speaks”, just like North Koreans do with Kim Jong Un.

I saw some unsettling numbers yesterday regarding this “Trump, Russerrr investigation”:

  • 59% of voters don’t know about the indictments & guilty pleas
  • Mueller’s approval rating is, at an all time low, 32%
  • Only…
