In these times of drought
We celebrate rain’s promise;
Exult in renewal.

We worship rainfall,
Beg for its munificence,
Make wishes on clouds.

Earnest entreaties,
A worried mother’s prayers,
Please, don’t forsake us!
A trip through life with fingers crossed and eternal optimism.
Doing the best I can with what I have
kind of sad, but not so bad with cheese. cheese not provided.

All of my childhood and young adult years were lived in the near-desert environment of the Texas panhandle. Rain, or the lack of it, was a constant topic of conversation.
