Eating alone
at a booth meant for four
I watch in envy the
gaggle of women gathering
noisily for lunch.
They are older than I am,
sixties and seventies,
but I would join them
in a heartbeat if they but
said the word.
Do they realize how lucky
they are to have
whatever it is that bonds
them?
I hope so.

But there’s something soothing about lunching alone too – one can read a book or spend useful time studying the people around us … for future use in our writing π

I wouldn’t mind except that it’s every meal now.

oh! then not as nice π¦ but anyway, do go into writer-as-observer mode, you’ll soon be submerged by people on your next stops, you might even miss the quiet lunches π

I don’t mind eating alone, but it would be nice to have a group to lunch with occasionally.
