Today’s the day for my annual mammogram. Every now and then I’ll read some woman’s account of how painful a mammogram can be. I’ve heard that some women even refuse to have one because they’ve been told how excruciating the procedure is.
Well, I’m here to tell you that a mammogram caught my cancer at a very early stage. Following a lumpectomy I only had to have six weeks of radiation. I shudder to think what might have been the outcome had I not been a big believer in annual mammograms.
Do mammograms hurt? Not really. They’re a bit uncomfortable, but nothing compared to the pain following the double mastectomy one might have to endure if a cancerous growth goes undetected for too long. Just do it, friends. If nothing else, pretend you’re doing a photo shoot for Playboy. Yes, I have a warped imagination—and two healthy breasts.

I’m not at the required age here in Australia, where we start getting the pamphlets, and we have no history of it in our family. However, I’m still considering. I do live in Australia, sun capital of the world…well maybe Africa is the sun capital, but we would be a pretty close second! lol

Here, they changed the age for screening several years ago. If I’d waited until that age my cancer likely would’ve have been much worse.

I have had many many mammograms in my life since I was 16. They are painful. But I have noticed that breathing right means everything. Keep you breathing low and slow. When you concentrate on your breath when that thing is squashing you, it is less painful.

Mine doesn’t hurt but is awkward and a bit uncomfortable. I have to go every 6 months.
A friend who had a breast reduction years ago says hers hurt. A lot. I feel bad for her but she endured because there’s a history in her family.
Either way, they are so necessary and important. Early detection is everything. 🙂

I had my first one this week. I was dreading it, but it was nothing like I thought it would be! Not bad at all. More uncomfortable than anything. Love your humor in it- made me laugh out loud!!

Yay for you!!! I’m 64, and have been having mammograms since I was 30 and the procedure has gotten much less painful with new technology. I’m tall, and the only uncomfortable times I can recall have been when the technician is short.

I’m 34… having some tests done because of two masses found on my ovaries and high cancer markers. My mammogram and ultra sounds were clear. One huge weight lifted. I have always been one that was scared, but even though I’m only in the beginning of my journey…I’ve learned my lesson on taking care of myself and rise through the fear. It matters.
