Punctual

Late Friday afternoon I received a text from my dentist’s office reminding patients of all the safety precautions patients needed to abide by during an appointment. Instantly I thought my appointment must be imminent. I looked through my calendar, though, and couldn’t find an entry.

I left a message with the dental office saying I’d apparently neglected to enter the date and time for my appointment, and asking them to contact me with that information when they opened on Monday.

Over the weekend, though, I began thinking that my appointment was for early morning on August 3, so I set an alarm and was at the dentist’s office a few minutes before eight this morning, prepared to wait awhile in case my appointment was at nine. As soon as I parked my car I called the office number.

“We just listened to your message,” the voice on the other end said. “Your appointment is for November 4, at 8 a.m.”

I don’t think I’ll wait around that long.

At least I wouldn’t have suffered the fate of these dinosaurs.

Peace, people.

      1. Don’t we all? My original dental appointment, pre-Covid, was for some time in April and they rescheduled me. My husband got to keep his originally scheduled appointment in May.

  1. I have a new dental hygienist since I was last seen December 2019. I have no idea what she looks like. Between the mask, goggles, shield, etc., all I know is she wears a lot of eye makeup. We joked that at my next appointment we will finally get to meet!

    1. It’s weird, isn’t it? I have been getting takeout from a different vegan place and even though I eat there at least once a week i still don’t know what anyone who works there looks like.

  2. Ugh! That sounds like something I’d do! I’m grateful that my dentist at least started a reminder and confirmation system. I get notified right after I’ve made my appointment with a reminder to add it to my calendar. Then a month before the appointment I get another reminder that it is coming up. A week before, I get the one where I have to confirm I’m still coming. THEN I get yet another one the day before and then the final one an hour before my appointment time. It’s like they designed the system with my swiss cheese brain in mind. Now if I could just get everyone else I do business with to use the same system, I’d be golden!
