My Book; My Baby

I’ve sent my novel off to two literary minded friends in two different parts of the world to be read and critiqued. Sending my children off to kindergarten wasn’t this emotionally painful.

Even though I have no illusions of my little manuscript becoming the next great American novel, just as I never imagined either of my kids would one day become president, I hope it has some redeeming qualities; although, I’m totally prepared to do a complete overhaul if it doesn’t.

If my beta readers think my book stinks, I’ll live. Oh, I’ll be depressed for awhile, but then I’ll try to make it not stink. Might need a few glasses of wine to ease the pain, but I have a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon handy. And if Donald Trump could be President, there’s hope for my kids. They’d both do a far better job than he has.

Peace, people!

    1. Thank you! If I’d never begun writing this blog I doubt that I’d have surrendered the manuscript so easily. It has helped to put myself out there, warts and all, every day.

  1. It was such an emotional upheaval to send out my book and start to get feedback. I also had several people that agreed to read for me that totally dropped kicked that ball and never even got back to me. The waiting was horrible. I wish you a much better experience than I had! And I’d vote for you kids in a heartbeat. Hell! I’d vote for Scout. Scout would be infinitely better!

    1. I’ve been a beta reader for a friend before, and it’s tough, right? It was as if three different me’s we’re doing the job: 1) friend, 2) critic, 3) grammarian and not necessarily in that order. I thought long and hard about who’d be the first to read this. One I know will be brutally honest. The other will be no-nonsense, but kind.

      And yes, Scout for President!

  2. If your blog posts are anything to judge your writing by, I’m pretty sure your beta readers will be very happy to read your book! :))) All the best!!
