Yesterday I had an upper endoscopy and learned that I have a dire condition known as LUQ. Before you begin sending condolences I have to admit that’s just another term for “bellyache.”
Sheesh. I could’ve told them that without going through the fasting and discomfort associated with an upper endoscopy. Although, to be honest, the discomfort was minor and mostly consisted of me being a bit chilly until the nurse placed a warmed blanket over me.
I probably had an ulcer, but if so it healed before the procedure, and now I just have some inflammation in the abdominal area. I have to lay off dairy products for two weeks while also taking a good probiotic (the doctor kind of made fun of my gummy probiotics) and Citrucel.
Color me relieved. I’m proud of my LUQ diagnosis. Hoping I can milk it for a good long time. It’ll have to be almond or soy milk though. (Any tips on dairy free diets are welcome.)

So glad for your ‘diagnosis’. So it’s dairy doing its thing. Personally, I love unsweetened almond milk much better than regular milk. I use it with cereal, baking, everything. But sorry no information to share on a dairy-free diet.

I once tried to make mashed potatoes without first cooking the potatoes. They did not mash at all!

I’m most impressed. These days I am…not boasting, I stress for I’m u/s at most things in life…an accomplished cook, yet years back my attempt to follow instructions as to how to make a cake in a microwave failed abysmally. Said cake turned into a rock hard frisbee that that kids were still having fun with into their teens!

Love the graphic! I had an upper last year. It wasn’t a lot of fun, but I’m glad I did it. In my case too much ibuprofen (oops). Good luck on your diet; I’m sure you’ll do great. – Marty

is it completely dairy-free or just lactose-free? I can have certain lactose-free dairy products. Here in Australia, we have a great range of lactose-free products, I am sure there is a larger range available to you in the US. There are great dairy free alternatives as well. Glad your diagnosis isn’t anything worse.

What a relief it is to have LUQ instead of something worse. Now you can enjoy your life without fear and stress. This alone will make your guts happy, and a diet will do the rest.
