I marched in the rain
With thousands of
Like-minded people
My tears fell as I
searched for parking
Joyful that it was
IMPOSSIBLE given the
Number of women and men
Of ALL ages and colors
Who joined their voices
In support of women’s
Inalienable rights.
Democracy in action.
My ball gown was a poncho,
My stilletos, tennis shoes.
Trump, in your ivory tower,
Heed this, our cry:
Women’s rights are Human
Rights! Liberty for one;
Liberty for ALL.
My friend Julie and I were about midway in the long line of people that stretched from Railroad Park up the hill to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Estimates indicate more than a thousand people took to the streets to express our fervent plea that women’s rights and the rights of minorities be honored in this new administration.
Rain fell intermittently, but spirits were high. Nothing could dampen the glow of democracy in our midst.

‘Men of quality, do not fear equality’. Odd a 70 year old hasn’t worked that out.

He’s already doing his best. Trump’s spokesdemon, Kellyann Conway referred to their version as “alternative facts” on a Sunday news program. Newspeak if ever I heard it.

Having spent most of my adult life in South Florida I am somewhat familiar with Tallahassee and the Florida Panhandle. Your march was extremely important particularly when a person realizes how hostile that part of the state can be. That is Trump country for many people. I thank you and the others for marching, it does take some courage. Let us all stay motivated.

We’ve been reading about the demonstrations at airports. Seems like there’s going to be a lot of demonstrating for a while.

According to one report a call went out for attorneys and 4,000 showed up to file claims on behalf of immigrants. I might have to stop telling lawyer jokes. Seriously though I’m scared. Trump seems bent on destroying our country.

I’ve run out of reply buttons, but I can’t let the conversation go. I’m scared too. We’re way, way out into uncharted waters here, with Ahab at the helm. My hope is that enough resistance now will make a difference.
